Harris to Meet with Final VP Candidates this Weekend as Decision Approaches

Vice President Kamala Harris is in the final stages of selecting her running mate for the upcoming election. She is set to interview six finalists over the weekend, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The decision will be made by Tuesday, with a campaign rally scheduled in Philadelphia to introduce her pick.

There is speculation that Shapiro, a second-year governor from Pennsylvania, may be the chosen candidate, given the importance of the state’s 19 electoral votes. However, the Harris campaign has cautioned against making any connections. Harris has been gaining momentum since announcing her candidacy, raising $310 million in July, including $200 million in the first week after former President Biden ended his reelection bid.

The Harris campaign’s fundraising total exceeds that of President Trump’s campaign, with $377 million in the bank for future spending. The final decision on Harris’ vice presidential nominee is eagerly awaited, as the campaign gears up for a multi-state battleground blitz. Harris has been energizing Democrats, improving Biden’s polling numbers, and bringing in a substantial amount of campaign cash. The upcoming rally in Philadelphia, launching the campaign tour, is anticipated to announce the chosen running mate and kick off the next phase of the campaign.
