Logan Airport experiences delays and cancellations for flights

Over the weekend, Logan International Airport was inundated with stranded passengers as severe weather conditions forced dozens of flights to be diverted to Boston. Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida, leading to as many as 25 flights landing at Logan due to inclement weather. This influx of flights overwhelmed the airport, resulting in delays, cancellations, and passengers being stuck on planes for hours. In response, JetBlue announced a major expansion in New England, offering flexible itinerary changes to affected travelers.

As a result of the chaos, Massport posted weather advisories, urging travelers to check with their airlines before flying to the southeastern US. JetBlue, United Airlines, and American Airlines all provided waivers for change fees and fare differences for impacted flights. Passengers flying between August 4 and 7 could rebook or receive refunds for their disrupted travel plans. United Airlines specified that the new flight must depart between August 2-10, while American Airlines allowed changes for flights scheduled between August 4-5.

Overall, the weekend’s events at Logan Airport highlighted the challenges faced by both passengers and airlines during severe weather conditions. JetBlue took proactive measures to assist affected travelers by offering flexible options for rescheduling flights, helping to alleviate some of the stress caused by the disruptions. Travelers are advised to stay informed and check with their airlines for the latest updates on itinerary changes during severe weather events.
