Steve Martin responded to calls for him to play Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, on “Saturday Night Live” by jokingly mentioning that Walz wants to tour with Martin Short instead. Social media users have noted Martin’s resemblance to the governor since Harris picked him as her running mate. This comes after former “SNL” cast member Maya Rudolph has returned to play Harris on the show. Rudolph had previously portrayed Harris alongside Jim Carrey as President Joe Biden. Pre-production for Rudolph’s Apple TV+ series “Loot” has been paused as well. Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden withdrew from the presidential race, and will be formally nominated at the Democratic National Convention starting Aug. 19. It remains to be seen if Steve Martin will actually make an appearance as Gov. Tim Walz on “Saturday Night Live” or if someone else will take on the role.
