Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification at the Olympics for weighing over the limit sparked controversy, with her appeal set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Phogat cut off her hair to make weight and received support from the Indian prime minister before announcing her retirement from the sport. Meanwhile, in athletics, the women’s 4x400m relay heats saw the USA and Jamaica advance to the finals, along with GB, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, and Canada. The USA’s quartet posted the strongest time of 3:21.44.

In the heptathlon, Katarina Johnson-Thompson maintained her lead over Nafissatou Thiam, despite a shaky start in the long jump event. The competition is heating up as they head into the javelin throw, a strong discipline for Thiam.

Kristof Rasovszky of Hungary secured gold in the men’s 10km swim, with Oliver Klemet of Germany taking silver and David Betlehem also from Hungary clinching bronze. The grueling race saw several competitors tap out due to exhaustion.

As the Olympic events continue, fans can look forward to the men’s team table tennis finals, the women’s heptathlon with the long jump event, and the new addition of breaking at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Other sports, such as golf, are also underway with Morgane Metraux leading the women’s individual strokeplay.
