After moving through the southeastern U.S., remnants of Debby continued to cause dangerous flooding and possible tornadoes as they moved through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Debby, now a post-tropical cyclone, was expected to bring up to 6 inches of rain to areas like northern Virginia and Upstate New York, with additional rainfall in northern New England and coastal Carolinas. Tornado watches were in place from North Carolina to Upstate New York, causing major airports to ground flights and officials to begin water rescues. Flash flood warnings were issued in Washington D.C., with reports of possible tornadoes in the Mid-Atlantic region. Travel advisories and warnings of flooding and severe weather were issued in several states, with instances of water rescues and road closures as floodwaters continued to rise. Over 100,000 homes and businesses in the eastern U.S. were without power as Debby caused damage and outages in states like Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. As Debby moved quickly through the region, the threat of continued flooding remained as floodwaters drained into swollen waterways.
