Young male driver arrested for causing deadly Sagamore Bridge collision

Paul Myers, a 19-year-old man from Plymouth, is facing charges after allegedly causing a fatal three-car crash on the Sagamore Bridge while driving under the influence of marijuana. The incident resulted in the death of 79-year-old Martha Shledon and injuries to two others. Massachusetts State Trooper Frederick Bohnenberger responded to the scene and found Myers with a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from his vehicle, along with burnt marijuana blunts on the floor. Myers admitted to causing the crash and was arrested for operating under the influence.

Myers has been charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and is being held on a $100,000 surety bond or $10,000 cash. He must surrender his Jamaican passport, remain drug-free, reside with his sister, and not drive as part of the conditions of his bond. Myers was unable to make bail and is currently in custody at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. His next hearing is scheduled for September 27.

The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and the need for stricter enforcement of impaired driving laws. A lawyer for Myers declined to comment on the case. The tragic crash serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the devastating consequences that can result from impaired driving.
