Police in Germany have arrested a suspect in connection with a knife attack in Solingen, where three people were killed and eight others were wounded on Friday night. The suspect, who gave himself up, was apprehended late on Saturday, according to reports from Bild and Spiegel news websites. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State group as retaliation for Muslims in Palestine.
Two additional individuals, including a 15-year-old boy who had prior knowledge of the attacks, were also arrested in connection with the incident. The attacker deliberately targeted his victims’ throats during the attack.
The victims of the attack were two men aged 67 and 56, and a 56-year-old woman. The attack occurred while Solingen was hosting the ‘Festival of Diversity’ to mark the city’s 650th anniversary, prompting the cancellation of the event.
Solingen, with a population of 160,000 residents, is located near Cologne and Düsseldorf. The arrest of the suspect brings some relief to the city as authorities work to uncover the motives behind the brutal attack and ensure the safety of its residents.
