Massachusetts GOP Call for Transparency on State’s $1 Billion in Unreported Spending on Migrants

Massachusetts Republicans have submitted a formal request to the state’s government for information on the alleged “$1 billion in secret migrant crisis spending” as the state faces challenges with the migrant crisis. MassGOP has demanded a detailed breakdown of the costs related to the crisis from Gov. Maura Healey’s administration. They criticized the administration for keeping the spending shrouded in secrecy and obstructing the flow of information to the public.

The FOIA request made by MassGOP seeks information on the state’s funding for housing migrants, including the names of entities providing emergency housing, the location of emergency housing, correspondence related to public safety concerns, and incident reports. Gov. Healey declared a state of emergency last year due to the increasing number of migrant families arriving in the state.

The Republicans argue that the Democrats’ supermajority has created a veil of secrecy surrounding the migrant crisis and are demanding transparency for Massachusetts residents. The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released a report predicting that the state will struggle to manage the growing number of migrants. The report estimated that Massachusetts has already spent over $1 billion on housing migrants and highlighted the potential costs of schooling, social services, medical care, and public safety that taxpayers will have to cover.

The FOIA request and criticism of the Healey administration come amid concerns about the impact of the migrant crisis on the state’s resources and budget. Fox News Digital has reached out to MassGOP and Gov. Healey’s office for comment on the issue.
