Former Boston police officer Brian Albert, central to the defense’s third-party killer theory in the Karen Read murder case, is earning over $8,000 a month in pension following his retirement after a 30-year career with the force. This comes amid allegations that Albert was involved in the murder of John O’Keefe. His pension is generous but not the highest, as there are 194 retirees earning over $10,000 monthly.
The trial involving Read, Jennifer McCabe, and Kerry Roberts ended in a mistrial last Monday after the jury was deadlocked. The accused found O’Keefe dead on Albert’s lawn and are facing charges related to his death. The defense argues that O’Keefe was killed inside Albert’s home and that the scene was staged.
The defense pointed to a Google search on McCabe’s phone as evidence, implying Albert’s involvement in O’Keefe’s death. Albert denied any involvement on the stand, stating he wished the couple had made it inside his home for the party they were invited to. The defense also raised suspicions about the family’s rehoming of their dog and alleged injuries on O’Keefe’s body.
During his career, Albert played a role in solving the Boston Strangler case in 2013 and capturing the Craigslist killer in 2009. Despite his retirement and pension, Albert remains embroiled in the ongoing legal battle surrounding O’Keefe’s death. The mistrial leaves the case unresolved, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives of what happened that fateful night.
