The families of three Revere women who were found dead in a Belize hotel room last month have been notified by US Embassy officials that the cause of their deaths was acute carbon monoxide poisoning, likely from a faulty instant water heater. Kaoutar Naqqad, 23, Imane Mallah, 24, and Wafae El Arar, 26, were discovered on February 22 at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort. Initially, Belizean authorities had cited “acute pulmonary edema” as the cause of their deaths. The families had expressed concerns about the lack of information and suspicions surrounding the deaths. They are awaiting results from a separate independent review conducted by Massachusetts authorities. The families also called for a full account of the investigation from Belizean authorities and expressed gratitude for the support they have received. Revere Mayor Patrick M. Keefe Jr. also addressed the families’ loss, emphasizing the importance of seeking the truth in a proper investigation. The families continue to mourn the loss and request privacy during this difficult time.
