Bradford Brown was arrested and charged with felony voluntary manslaughter after allegedly hitting and killing his 6-year-old son’s grandmother during a custody exchange in North Carolina. The incident occurred after an argument broke out when Brown arrived without a proper car seat for the child. He put the car in reverse and accelerated onto the victim, knocking her to the ground and running over her with the car’s tires. The child was brought into the home before Brown escaped on foot but was arrested shortly after.
Brown appeared in court where his attorney stated there had been instances of volatility in the past. The judge set a $500,000 bond and ordered Brown to have no contact with his child, the child’s mother, or the victim’s husband. He was also assigned a public defender and instructed to wear an ankle monitor for at-home arrest if he meets bond.
An additional man who was in the car with Brown was identified but not considered a victim in the incident. The child was physically unharmed in the incident but was said to be scarred for life. Brown expressed his remorse in court, saying he was “sorry” for his actions. Brown’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
