Fenway Park Concessions Workers Face Historic Labor Strike
Boston, MA – May 13, 2025 – Unionized concessions workers at Fenway Park and MGM Music Hall are poised to potentially initiate their first-ever labor strike next month. More than 1,000 Aramark employees, including cashiers, servers, and kitchen staff, are set to vote on strike authorization from June 13 to 15, as negotiations for a new contract have stalled.
The contract for these workers, represented by Unite Here Local 26, expired at the end of 2024. Despite entering talks with Aramark in early 2025, union representatives have remarked that progress remains insufficient as workers currently earn less than $20 an hour—below the city’s living standards.
Many workers, some of whom have dedicated decades to their positions, express their dissatisfaction with stagnant wages amidst rising living costs in Boston. “They used to earn reasonable wages, but their pay rates have not kept up,” the union stated. Workers emphasize their commitment to Fenway, citing community ties formed over years spent in the iconic ballpark, stating, “Fenway Park is part of Boston’s foundation.”
Prominent union voices highlight the detrimental impact of automated services—like self-checkouts and vending machines—on job security and customer interaction. “Red Sox fans come for the experience, not just the game,” noted Carlos Aramayo, the union president. “These workers should be paid well and not pressured by technology.”
In support of the workers, City Councilor Sharon Durkan has raised awareness of their plight. As the June strike authorization votes approach, the outcome may reshape the future of Fenway Park’s service staff amid ongoing negotiations. Aramark assures that contingency plans are in place should a strike occur.
