Red Sox Suffer Defeat to Tigers as Javier Baez Hits Walk-Off Home Run in the 11th Inning

Tigers’ Báez Powers Late-Inning Comeback Against Red Sox

DETROIT (AP) – In a thrilling showdown on Tuesday night, Detroit Tigers’ Javier Báez secured a dramatic 10-9 victory over the Boston Red Sox with his second three-run homer in the 11th inning. This marked Báez’s first multi-homer game in Detroit, signaling a resurgence in his performance after struggling in recent seasons.

The Tigers, who lead the American League, showcased resilience throughout the game, consistently battling back to reclaim leads they lost after taking them in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings. In a nail-biting finish, Báez’s game-winning blast came after Kristian Campbell had initially put the Tigers up with a two-run homer in the 11th. Tigers’ pitcher Beau Brieske (1-1) clinched the win, allowing two runs in his final inning of work.

Boston had taken the lead multiple times, including a crucial moment in the 10th when Ceddanne Rafaela’s groundout put them ahead. However, the Tigers quickly equalized thanks to Trey Sweeney’s timely hit. Red Sox fans expressed their discontent towards Alex Bregman during the game, especially after he hit a solo homer, reminding them of his choice to decline signing with Detroit in the offseason.

Báez celebrated his pivotal home run raising his arms as the crowd erupted, chanting “Ja-vy! Ja-vy!” in a poignant moment reflecting his turnaround. The Tigers have now won 10 of their last 13 games and will look to continue their momentum with Tarik Skubal (4-2, 2.08 ERA) set to pitch against Boston’s Hunter Dobbins (2-1, 2.78) in the series finale on Wednesday.
