Worcester Red Sox Fall to RailRiders Amidst Strong Efforts
Worcester, MA – In a tense Friday night matchup, the Worcester Red Sox fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 3-1, evening the series at two games apiece. Despite recording 10 hits, the WooSox (27-27) couldn’t capitalize on their chances. The turning point came in the eighth inning when Yasmani Grandal delivered a crucial single, bringing home Nate Eaton for a 1-0 lead.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically when pitcher Alex Hoppe took the mound. After allowing back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases, RailRiders’ designated hitter Alex Jackson delivered a game-changing double, clearing the bases and securing a 3-1 lead for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Although Worcester managed to limit the damage to three runs, their offensive efforts fizzled in the ninth. Starting pitcher Cooper Criswell shone with a strong performance, surrendering only two hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings.
The WooSox will seek redemption in the penultimate game of the series against the RailRiders, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
