Patrice Bergeron Responds to Bruins Hiring Former Teammate Marco Sturm as Head Coach

Boston Bruins Name Marco Sturm as New Head Coach, Earning Praise from Patrice Bergeron

The Boston Bruins have officially named Marco Sturm as their new head coach, a decision met with enthusiastic approval from former linemate Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins made the announcement on Thursday morning after an extensive search for a replacement for Joe Sacco, who served as interim coach following Jim Montgomery’s dismissal in November.

Bergeron, who played alongside Sturm during his time in Boston, expressed his support for the hiring, emphasizing Sturm’s passion for the game and leadership qualities. "He was an incredible teammate, and I’m not surprised he pursued coaching. His energy is contagious, and he cares deeply for the game and his players," Bergeron told NHL.com. He added, “This is well-deserved, and I wish him all the best.”

Sturm, who brings significant international coaching experience to the role, previously led the German national team to a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. He has spent the past three seasons coaching the AHL’s Ottawa Reign, where he garnered an impressive record of 119 wins, 80 losses, and six overtime losses, along with three consecutive playoff appearances.

The decision to hire Sturm came after the Bruins interviewed several candidates, including Jay Woodcroft, Jay Leach, and Sacco. His appointment marks a new chapter for a team aiming for success under his leadership.

With Bergeron’s backing and Sturm’s proven track record, the Bruins are hopeful that the new coach will help guide the franchise to greater heights in the upcoming NHL season.
