Local Employee Suspended Amid Allegations of Poisoning Incident
North Providence, RI — A local Department of Public Works employee, Alessio Dandrea, 29, has been placed on unpaid leave following allegations that he poisoned a coworker’s sports drink with windshield wiper fluid. The incident was reported by WPRI and confirmed by North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi, who described the act as "juvenile" rather than malicious.
Dandrea, employed by the department since June 2024, is currently under investigation by local authorities. The Department of Public Works and Human Resources have not provided further comments regarding the incident.
In a troubling backstory, Dandrea was previously charged in a 2023 federal investigation for possession of unregistered firearm silencers and unlicensed weapon imports. Federal agents seized two silencers and a conversion device during a search of his residence after intercepting a package sent from China. He was released on a $10,000 bond with stipulations to comply with the law and undergo mental health treatment.
As this investigation unfolds, North Providence police have yet to make a statement regarding the recent allegations.
