Drake Maye Embraces Change as Patriots Begin Offseason Program
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye addressed reporters Thursday, expressing excitement about the team’s recent changes and preparations under new head coach Mike Vrabel. As the offseason unfolds, Maye is immersing himself in the new playbook, particularly under the guidance of returning offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Reflecting on his initial days with Vrabel, Maye highlighted the coach’s immediate impact. "It’s been great with coach," he remarked, noting Vrabel’s comfort and experience as a leader. Maye emphasized Vrabel’s goal of establishing a new team identity, stating, "I think we’re building toward that."
One of the strongest signals of the Patriots’ commitment to Maye’s protection came with the draft selection of offensive tackle Will Campbell, who pledged to give his all for the quarterback. "It makes you want to go out there and play football," Maye said of Campbell’s emotional draft-night declaration.
In preparation for the upcoming season, Maye is also studying footage of Tom Brady showcasing McDaniels’ offensive strategies. "His stuff works. As the offseason unfolds, Maye also addressed the trade of backup quarterback Joe Milton, whom he called a supportive teammate. "I’m pulling for Joe," Maye said, looking ahead to the potential for their paths to cross again in the future.
