Carrie Underwood Brings Back Nostalgia to "American Idol"
In a nostalgic twist on Sunday’s episode of “American Idol,” judge Carrie Underwood surprised viewers by performing “Alone,” a song she initially showcased as a contestant during the show’s fourth season in 2005. Her rendition kicked off a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed round, featuring the Top 14 contestants performing tracks by legendary inductees.
A few days prior to the episode, the official "American Idol" YouTube channel unveiled a segment in the series “From Idol to Icon,” where Underwood reflected on her early days on the show. Recalling her choice to take risks as a “country singer,” she remarked, “I wanted to break out of my shell.” Looking back at her iconic 1987 hairstyle, she acknowledged its significance: “Now it’s iconic, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Underwood also revisited a memorable moment from her past when judge Simon Cowell predicted her future success, stating, “You will sell more records than any other previous ‘Idol’ winner.” Fast forward, and Underwood has sold over 85 million records worldwide, cementing her status as the show’s top-selling winner. Reflecting on that time, she said, “The compliment outweighed the fear, because that was just incredible.”
