Connecticut Sun Gears Up for 2025 Season Amid Preseason Challenges
UNCASVILLE ― As the 2025 WNBA season approaches its tip-off, the Connecticut Sun prepares for their home opener against the Washington Mystics on May 18. Fans got a glimpse of the team’s new roster during a preseason match on Sunday, where the Sun faced the Seattle Storm, losing 79-59. With key players—like star guard Marina Mabrey—absent due to injuries, Coach Rachid Meziane emphasized the importance of preparing newcomers for the challenges of the WNBA. “(Sunday’s) game confirmed we have a ton of hard work to do,” he stated.
Veteran Tina Charles, entering her 15th season and a former Sun player, has taken on a leadership role, sharing her extensive experience and setting a standard for dedication. “Longevity is key,” she explained, highlighting the importance of recovery and self-care. Charles has effectively bridged communication between Meziane, the coaching staff, and the players, reinforcing a team-oriented environment.
On the injury front, rookie Aneesah Morrow missed her debut due to a right knee issue. Meanwhile, Mabrey participated in drills, showing significant progress and potential for the final preseason game on May 9. Morrow, recovering from prior knee surgeries, remains optimistic and focused on learning from her teammates during her sidelined period. “I’m able to be a sponge,” she remarked, emphasizing her goal to absorb knowledge and prepare for her return.
As the team faces early-season challenges, the Sun remains committed to building team chemistry and readiness, aiming for success in a promising 2025 WNBA season.
