Press Release: Pakistani Forces Neutralize 54 Militants in Major Operation
ISLAMABAD — In a significant security operation, Pakistani military forces have killed 54 militants attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan, marking one of the largest single-day casualties of militants in recent years. The military identified the insurgents as "Khwarij," a term used for the Pakistani Taliban, and suggested they were operating under the influence of foreign entities aiming to execute high-profile attacks in Pakistan.
The operation took place near North Waziristan, a historic stronghold of the Taliban, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praising the security forces for their decisive action to preempt potential attacks. While explicitly refraining from naming any country, Naqvi indicated that foreign entities were behind the push for incursions into Pakistan.
This announcement coincides with heightened violence attributed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group related to the Afghan Taliban, which has found refuge in Afghanistan since their rise to power in August 2021. Information Minister Attaullah Tatar emphasized that accusations from New Delhi against Islamabad following a deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir are aimed at diverting attention from the security challenges along Pakistan’s western borders. Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have lauded the military’s successful operation.
